A Little Boy and a Suffering Hospital

Around 02:00 on Thursday morning the first Papuan I met in YWAM Madang (PNG) was driven to the local hospital by the A&E (ER) nurse who happens to be our hostess here on the base.

The five-year old boy, who has been a dear little friend to me all week, awoke in intense pain at that hour of the morning and the nurse saw all the symptoms and evidence of acute appendicitis.

Rushed to the hospital and hooked up to an IV, the nurse, medical staff and family prayed for a miracle.

Thursday afternoon I saw the little boy flying around on a little bicycle and heard him loudly greeting me. All well and fine, no surgery needed and no more pain.

That was a God-intervening situation in answer to prayer, but that hospital is in danger of “collapse”. The nurse later said that, when they were there, emergency “did not even have a proper working thermometer” on hand.

An article has appeared in the local newspaper to demonstrate how critical things are at that hospital. You can read the article here.

The LORD saved that little boy this week, by stepping in as only He can. There are many other little boys (and girls) in the massive area served by this hospital who may not be so rescued if the hospital is not saved. Many people needing urgent or long-term care will be unable to receive it unless something changes. Prayers for this situation and the medical centre are most appreciated at this time.
