Spanish in North Carolina
It was a little bit of a surprise (that should not have been) that my Old Testament Bible story presentation in an English-speaking church yesterday was going to be in Spanish.
Apart from a bit of panic that it has been a while since I told a story in Spanish, it was a challenge when I found that ‘the network’ did not reach the inner confines of the classroom, thus hindering my access to check some vocabulary used in the Spanish Bible. However, the presentation flowed and there was great interaction from every person present in the room and some nice personal application that came out as we discussed the story.
My wife expressed later that the tenderness of God’s care shown in that Bible story (in 2 Kings iv 1-7) came through in our time together and a deep assurance of the trustworthiness and faithfulness of God was guaranteed and evident.
Lunchtime was also a blessing as we intentionally surprised some old (Spanish speaking) friends in a local restaurant during this lightning visit to N Carolina. They are missionaries, battle-worn by years of challenge and who were needing refreshment and some encouragement from the LORD. They reported back today (Monday) that our time together and seeing us again after so many years was “the greatest gift” they had received “in a long time”. For our part we gave thanks for this opportunity to bless some faithful saints who have served long in demanding fields.
Tomorrow we leave the States to continue our journey onward to PNG …
