Day 3: New York to Georgia
With a pleasant night behind us in New York, near the airport, we flew to Atlanta in Georgia and then drove to visit some very dear friends, whom we first met back in 2009 on our journey from Ireland to the Peruvian Amazon.
Last year we had the privilege of visiting them in their home and we heard about the shock news that a daughter of theirs had been struck with serious cancer. Our time together was emotional at that time—firstly because we had not seen them in ages, but more so because of what they were going through as a couple and family.
Before leaving we had a very precious time of prayer, with the very tangible presence of the LORD among us, asking the LORD for complete healing for the daughter. We carried their daughter and family in prayer all year, giving thanks that God is a God who hears prayer and had heard those prayers.
Last night we arrived back with them in their Georgia home and were staggered at the measure with which the LORD answered all our prayers in a multiplied manner.
We heard the news that not only was their dear daughter completely cancer free, healed of the LORD, but she was a different woman entirely. There had been some heart-breaking estrangement in the family for a long time, but when their daughter was diagnosed with cancer it really impacted the whole family and one by one in different ways their offspring sought forgiveness of their parents and were, firstly, marvellously reconciled, and deeply restored but also have entered a new place in the LORD together.
As we heard so many elements to this grace story, and specific victories, and the moving of the Holy Spirit upon members of the family, as well as the amazing healing itself, we sat in awe of our Father who hears us. Reminded yet again how our Loving LORD can turn any life-threatening situation around to His glory and our victory, taking one traumatic condition that the enemy means for evil, using it to turn all things to His praise and for the healing of a family in relational pain.
Our God is an awesome God. One more testimony. One more daughter healed of cancer. One more family melted by the God of the impossible and brought united to His feet in love and praise! We rejoice with them. I could not get a big smile off my face all through last night, and this morning, as I thought about all God has done in one year!
