Down By the River Side
The “Riverside” promenade in Phnom Penh, down near where the Tonle Sap river meets the mighty Mekong, is one of those places on earth where extreme behaviour and brokenness exist in abundance.
Our Irish church team have been out praying and “stopping for the one” whom God lays on our hearts.
I met a young man from Liberia there recently and his namesake was famous in the Bible for running from God. I was drawn to the fellow and, when I learned his name, joked, “I hope you won’t try running from God!” He said that that would not be a good idea.
My N Irish friend and colleague and I got to pray with him and, this dear man, who confessed being a Christian, said to me that he felt such a weight lifting off his shoulders after that prayer time.
My now Liberian buddy remains in touch and I hope to see him again before we leave the country.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankans, Kenyans and other Liberians, as well as two from Cameroon, have been among the many people whom we have been able to reach out to in addition to local Cambodians.
It was moving to see the LORD touching many lives and beginning a healing journey for some of the hurting!
