Meditation: Cool promises in the Bible

Do you want to not only have God listen to you and hear you, but to have Him write a special book with your name in it?!?

Well, guess what? The Bible says (Malachi iii 16):

“Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, And the LORD listened and heard them; So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the LORD And who meditate on His name.”

This is one of the many promises God gives us for meditating in His Word. We are coming to the end of our ‘Meditation series’ for now, but I wanted to point out that, yes, it is a command Jesus gave us (Mark xii 30 - loving with the mind), but it is because, among other things, He wants to pour blessings out in your life that you will receive when you meditate in His Word.

Did you know fruit on the tree comes from “excess growth”? When the tree has enough food supply its extra nourishment becomes fruit for the benefit of others. Life is too busy. We must take time to meditate, unhurried and undistracted, in His Word. As we do we will find excess growth (fruit) appearing in our lives that will touch others. Look at all these promises in one passage:

“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.” ~ Psalms i 1-3 Wow!

God’s company, good success and prospered ways is promised to those who meditate:

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” ~ Joshua I 8-9

Protection from sin:

“Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” ~ Psalms cxix 11

There are many more promises in the Bible, but I have chosen these for now. Perhaps you can use them sequentially to meditate each night. Are you remembering HWLW? Remember the nature you feed is the nature that grows! Are you feeding your mind with the Word of God?

Before we leave this subject altogether, I want us to look (next time) at two other areas where Scripture shows us how to meditate, and, finally, at the one method that I use most of all for meditating nowadays - one that is rich and incredibly powerful. Coming up soon.
