Unforgettable in PNG 😮

There they were. Two little siblings, looking up with absolutely angelic expressions, immaculately dressed in their little dresses, asking for prayer.

Yesterday was an evening in Madang that I will not forget. I had just presented a Bible story from the Old Testament to an audience gathered in the open air for a “community gathering”.

The story went well. The translator, a lovely young man and colleague here in PNG, did a fabulous job and the interaction that followed with the audience about that Bible story had been very good.

People had prayed in groups of five for those who responded to the Word of God and who needed prayer. Even after I began drawing the prayer time to a close, most of the groups carried on praying and it was a holy moment that I did not want to interrupt, so I waited as the Holy Spirit was clearly meeting people round the basketball court upon which we were congregated.

Finally, I closed my “sermon” leading in a prayer for those who wanted to know Jesus, and asking those who prayed the prayer to come forward afterwards and meet with me.

A relative brought along the two little girls and they were both keen to have me pray with them. An adult woman, who later told me she had prayed the prayer to follow Jesus, was waiting patiently and talked with my wife as I prayed for these remarkable two little sisters.

Wise and mature beyond their years they individually prayed with me for what was on their hearts and then headed off happily to rejoin the adults who brought them to the meeting. One even went off and began singing beautifully through a microphone as three adults accompanied on several instruments. She must have been six years old.

As I looked around those floodlit groups of people in prayer, heard adults and children respond to questions I asked the audience (about the Bible story), looked into the eyes of those little girls asking for prayer, heard my translator excitedly tell me how much he enjoyed translating and how he wanted to do it again, and considered the young woman who gave her heart to Jesus, and so much more, I thanked the LORD for the privilege of being here at this time and for the opportunity to declare His glory, His Word and wonderful works to this people so remote from my home and culture!

Repeatedly the LORD continues to bless us with such a privilege of seeing Him work on this trip! What an honour!
