Exceeding Abundantly Above

She has had a dream since childhood to be a helper of mankind. She told us the provision of this job as a waitress in an exclusive restaurant was a “miracle”.

Seeing her name tag, Esther, I had asked her if she knew whom she was named after. She told me “Queen Esther” in the Bible. I told her that a famous quote in that biblical story/book was Esther’s uncle (Mordecai) saying, “Who knows but if you were born for such a time as this”. I told her that I felt that God was going to raise her up for ‘such a time as this’ in His purposes for her life.

A little later, when we three were all alone in the restaurant, and we had finished our meal, I told her the story of Esther in summary, and, prompted by the LORD, had her read out loud Ephesians iii 20 (“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,”).

She admitted that she had been distracted away from spending time with the LORD by her job, but also told us she loved Jesus.

I encouraged her to read the book of Esther tonight, but I shared with her that, just like Queen Esther, who was snatched out of insignificance and given a place of notoriety and influence as the King’s wife, God has a plan for her life that is ‘exceeding, abundantly above all (she) could ask or think’, or thought, as a child., and that just giving her this job is the beginning of something that could touch the whole city and nation.

She allowed us to pray for her right there in the restaurant after closing time. Just the three of us, believing together that God has called this Esther into a purpose and destiny way beyond her imagination could possibly take her.
