A Determined Woman

She told me one day that she had been praying for a better way to share her faith than she had been able to do thus far. She was eager to tell people about her love for Jesus, but knowing the power of God’s Word to transform lives, she wanted to know how to effectively share the Word in a natural way to regularly impact the lives of others.

We had been discussing Simply the Story (STS) and her interest was piqued, and she thought that this might indeed be the answer to her prayers about a ministry tool that could help her bear more effective witness.

One day that week I had opportunity to share a Bible story from Luke’s Gospel and lead discussion (using STS). Immediately after that she knew that she had seen what she wanted to learn and use for ministry, as it had deeply touched her heart and she knew that if that was what had happened for her, then she could learn STS to use with others and see them likewise impacted by the Word.

I told her of the upcoming STS workshop and the team coming in to teach and train other people from YWAM (Youth with a Mission) staff living in the town of Madang to the north of the capital of PNG, where she was living.

Owing to the mountainous terrain and no roads between the two towns, she had to take a flight. We settled on getting her up there a couple of days before the workshop started so she could settle in and be rested up to join the workshop when it started.

Firstly, the airline cancelled the booking she had made and an urgent trip the next day into the capital city centre was necessary to get another booking set up.

Next she presented herself at the airport to get the flight and it had been cancelled. She had to come back the next day. To cut a long story short, it took four trips to the airport at least, and another couple of cancelled flights before she was able to get out to Madang for the STS workshop last month, and, due to the airline’s disorganisation and resulting flights mess, she did not make it to the workshop until the second day of the training.

However, her determination to grasp what the LORD had shown her meant she still managed to reach her goal of learning a new ministry tool that has inspired her with a new enthusiasm to share her faith and given her a practical way to do just that. She told me, while still in the training, that she could not wait to get back to the capital to share Jesus in the market and streets and with colleagues in the YWAM ministry centre where she lives and works.

There are times when the enemy will try and fight tooth and nail any attempts at the proclamation of God’s Word and in those times we need to silence his intimidation, and his accusations that we are not good enough, and just laugh at the impossibilities that come to hinder Kingdom work. “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil”. Since that has been done, our perseverance against all odds will win the day.
