Out of his Chair!

We were standing round having coffee and tea, as usual after the morning service. The sermon had just concluded and we were all abuzz in fellowship with one another.

Suddenly, I heard the room go quiet. I turned round to see the awestruck faces and many with mouths open all around the room and all looking in one direction. A stillness and awareness that God was present and working caused this moment to continue, like someone had stopped time.

Why this reaction? Well a man in a wheelchair, quite off his own bat, had just stood up and was beginning to walk around the room!

The man in the chair came into church this morning, wheeled in to take his place near the front. For quite some time he had been weakening with motor neurone disease, a horrible debilitating disease that leads to death. (Many will have heard of the famous scientist Stephen Hawking, who died with a form of this disease).

Our man in the chair had battled depression with the onset of the disease, but this morning he heard a message from the Word of God and he responded in faith. When an elder went over to greet him, he responded with, “I feel that I can walk”. The elder offered to help him get up, but the man refused and said, “I’ve got to do this on my own”.

Well, the man got up and began to walk. He walked up and down the church, which is why we were all looking on gobsmacked! He had limited use of his arm and another one in a sling. He began to experience freedom and continued walking. Wiping tears frequently from his face he told how his whole body was tingling with the presence of the Holy Spirit all over him.

Next he did not want to sit in his wheelchair, and, when it was time to leave he decided to walk home. The elder accompanied him the whole way home and said that the man did not stop once on the way, walking completely by himself!

He came into church in a wheelchair and went home walking, leaving his wheelchair behind, because he doesn’t believe he will need it anymore. This evening I have heard from the elder who went to visit him again. The man has not sat down all day and was even vacuuming his house! Our God is a Mighty God! Wow!

I told you I would tell you more about what God is doing in Fintona in Manifest Fellowship. It took a while, but after this morning’s miracle healing and sovereign work of God, I had to get back to you now with this story. No doubt there will be more news and stories from out West (in Northern Ireland). God is on the move and it is wonderful to behold. So much so that people stand around in church in awe and with mouths open nowadays!
