Meditation at Night (Part 1)

Have you ever been plagued with insomnia? Maybe you have been angry at what someone said or did to you and you drop off to sleep thinking about that person or situation?

Have you ever gone to bed with a worry or a bit of anxiety on your mind? And then, as the wakeful night progresses, that original pimple-size problem takes on gargantuan proportions? When you awake you are just weary and overwhelmed by your worry?

How about this scenario … you go to bed late after binge watching that drama on TV until your eyelids no longer remain open? Or you go out to watch a late film in the cinema (or at home on TV), and then you turn in for the night. What are you thinking about the following morning more often than not? Are your waking thoughts something to do with that TV drama or film? Hmm!

Good news and bad news. Good news first … Time to congratulate yourself here right now! If any of the above has been your experience you have discovered the power of meditation by night! Be happy! This discovery is an important first step!

The bad news is: it’s the wrong type of meditation! You are filling your mind with all the troubles or distractions of life and taking it to bed with you. Not a good plan. We’ll see why later.

Before we can look at good, wholesome, peaceful, sleep-inducing meditation in the night, free from worry and anxiety and grudges and anger, etc. we need to look at a couple more things.

Coming up next ... my journey with meditation and “the science”!
