When it is not just for you!

A fabulous Ethiopian meal: Tibs, Injera and Mitmita - eaten with the hands

So there I was, minding my own business, sitting at the table with our team, as I was attempting to eat my meat by hand with injera wrapped around it, when suddenly out of nowhere this dark-skinned hand reached into my plate, picked up a hunk of food and retreated hastily to the owner’s mouth!

This picture occurred pretty much at every meal time.

Now some people might react to others eating off their plate, but I have seen that in many cultures around the world sharing what you own and food you eat is commonplace. It is often the case that we (mostly from Western nations) are the ones who miss out on the rich blessing of communal ownership and sharing.

As my brother reached into my plate to taste what I had ordered, and into the plates of those in our team around me, I smiled and thought to myself, “Truly, my brother! What a privilege to be appreciated in this way!”
